Can

Meaning: To be able, to Like [in relation to food]

Examples:

  • Can you eat that kind of food? (Do you like that type of food?)
  • Can they be do that work? (Are they really able to do the work?)

Canvas

Meaning: Tennis shoes

 Examples:

  • You no carry yo canvas come? (You didn’t bring your tennis shoe)
  • You for wear that canvas na (You should wear that tennis shoe)

Cav

Meaning: To see or to understand (See also “Get”)

Examples:

  • Did you cav that bird? (Did you see that bird?)
  • Do you cav what I am saying? (Do you understand what I am saying)

Charley

Meaning: A man, guy, boy etc.

Examples:

  • Charley where you dei? (Guy where are you?)
  • Charley na chop time we dei (Boy it’s time to eat)

Chic

Meaning: Beautiful or pretty young girl (Other times mean “girlfriend”)

Examples:

  • Guy see that chic (Guy see that beautiful girl)
  • Bros na my chic be that (Bros that’s my girlfriend)

Chop

Meaning:

To eat, confiscate,

To win (in a bet)

And sometimes (to have sex with)

Examples:

  • Shey you don chop? (Have you eaten?)
  • Ah don chop de girl (I’ve had sex with the girl)

Comot

Meaning:

  1. Leave!
  2. Go away!
  3. Excuse me
  4. Take away/out
  5. Out or go out (gone/going out)

 

Examples:

          Comot there! (Leave there!)

          Comot here jo! (Go away please)

          Comot make I pass. (Excuse me I want to pass)
